General Computer Support / Computer Freezing
« on: December 31, 2016, 07:40:31 pm »
My wife's computer (Win 10 - I5 - 4 gb ram) "freezes" she says. I have ran A/V (Avast), Malwarebytes, and Computer Repair. Nothing helps. I have also cleaned the cache. Still does the same thing. She uses my Win10 I7 w/12 gb ram and it doesn't "freeze".

She plays games on Facebook daily.

Any ideas what is happening here?

I ran the Windows Repair Tool on a laptop with Windows 7. The machine took over a day to run the repair tool. Now it only will start in safe Mode. Is there any way to make it start the normal way, not in safe mode?

General Computer Support / Windows 8 Problem (Solved)
« on: May 12, 2015, 04:43:08 pm »
I have a retired gentlreman that brought his wife's HP Envy m6 laptop to me this morning. It has Windows 8 on it. The problem she has is that they were away on an extended vacation and she forgot her Windows password. This is not a hack request, since I could just reload the machine withe Windows 8 (or 7) and be done with it. She has too many family items on the laptop. She just wants to recover the existing password so she can get her personal items off the machine and onto CD.

I found a utility on Warez-BB that says it will recover and/or reset the windows password on any windows machine from XP thru Windows 8 using Linux. But when I try it, it says there is no windows on the machine.

Can you help me with something to recover her password?

Thanks in advance.

General Computer Support / (Solved) Site moved using Internet Explorer
« on: March 24, 2015, 07:23:52 am »
Sorry for being a pain, since you guys just helped me with another problem, but I have another issue which just started late last week.

I receive e-mails from Publishers Clearing House (which is OK). Last week I started seeing something strange when I click on a button in their e-mail to go to another page on their site, the page goes elsewhere, which I never received before.

The next page comes up with a "Page Moved" message with a long series of characters. Plus I see that PCH.com has been replaced with spectrum.pch.com.

I have used Anvi Browser Repair Tool, JV16 Power Tools, Glary Utilities, Malwarebytes, & Shane's Tweaking Tool. I have also tried searching the registry for pch.com, spectrum.pch.com, & spectrum. When I found anything, I deleted it.

I also have tried searching the net for the error, but come up with only one site with a repair tool. I also saw that that tool is a scam.

I also did a check disk /R from the tweaking tool.

None of the above would get rid of the problem of the "Page Moved".

Any ideas?

First, thanks for the software you provide and thanks for the forum.

I have a 8 core FX8350 with 8 GB RAM running Windows 7 Enterprise. My Internet Explorer is version 11. I can load IE and within 5-10 minutes, it quits working. This machine was completely reloaded no more than two weeks ago from a bare drive condition.
This is what comes up:

Internet Explorer has stopped working.

Problem signature:
  Problem Event Name:   APPCRASH

It allows me to restart IE and recover the page, but this get very annoying.

I have scanned the machine with Avast Anti-Virus, Malwarebytes porfessional, and herdProtect. I have used your Windows Repair (All-In-One), tried resetting IE with no add-ons, changed from GPU rendering to software rendering, and also changed to not running in protected mode. There are a few other things I have tried with no success.

Do you have any ides for me to try.

Thanks you in advance for any help you can suggest.
